I am a student, not a historian. I began this out of a simple fear: that the people who carried our hardest history are quietly disappearing — and that no one my age is listening while there is still time to.
The men in this archive commanded thousands, survived crashes, buried friends. Most of them will tell you it was "just a job." They will not broadcast their own stories. So I sit with them, record what they say, and write it down with the care it deserves.
This is an attempt to carry something forward before it is lost — from one generation to the one that comes next.
The veteran's service background, and the texture of the conversation as it actually unfolded.
The interview itself, organised into thematic sections with historical footnotes for context.
The single story the veteran most wants carried forward — the one whose forgetting would be a loss.
Photographs, documents and suggested readings that extend each conversation beyond the spoken word.
If you, or someone in your family, has served and would be willing to share their experience for the archive, I would be honoured to listen.
